WORK EXPERIENCE
SEEK
Senior Software Engineer
Oct 2022 - Present
- Championed improvements to “day-two” Kubernetes platform operations by introducing a team-wide system of work for operational health and hygiene tasks. Established an Effort/Impact prioritisation framework that aligned competing work, improved visibility of operational outcomes, and tracked initiatives from definition through to completion.
- Led an observability initiative focused on alert noise reduction, which resulted in a ~90% decrease in alerts received by the team in six months (2653 → 298 alerts per month), allowing engineers to focus on actionable issues rather than being distracted by false alarms. Established a team alerting philosophy to use as a guiding light for all ongoing and future alerting work to ensure monitoring remains noise free.
- Designed and continuously improved platform disaster recovery (DR) processes for the Kubernetes platform, collaborating across engineering teams to automate and validate full platform recreation, reducing recovery time by over 85% compared with the original recovery time of over a day. The reduction moved platform recovery time out from business critical risk territory.
- Improved Kubernetes (EKS) upgrades by establishing consistent, documentation-led execution and communication processes, making upgrades easier for administrators and more transparent for engineering teams who use the platform.
- Collaborated with fellow platform teams to assist them in delivery, helping them adopt safer and more repeatable practices. This support focused on migrating the deployment of Argo CD to Terraform, as well as introducing blue/green deployments to the clusters via Argo Rollouts.
- Developed internal team tooling and AI-assisted workflows to automate common Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting tasks, reducing manual effort and enabling platform administrators to resolve operational issues more efficiently and safely.
- Created a documentation-first, remote-friendly onboarding process for new starters, ensuring they are able to get started quicker, and know who to reach out to and how if they encounter any problems.
Software Engineer
Aug 2021 - Nov 2022
- Helped shape the vision and direction of the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) by establishing and facilitating a cross-team SIG, aligning teams on the platform’s vision and purpose, as well as promoting knowledge sharing for all platform stakeholders involved in IDP development.
- Built out the observability interfaces and processes for the platform, created high-quality dashboards that were used during a mass migration process to monitor the stability of the platform.
MYOB
DevOps Engineer
Apr 2020 - Aug 2021
- Helped develop and maintain a long-living internal Kubernetes platform, with a special focus on streamlining support/customer requests, as well as designing troubleshooting run sheets that can be used to resolve alerts and other common admin tasks.
- Ran “Introduction to Kubernetes” workshops for product teams (both in person and remotely) to help build an understanding on how the platform works and how to deploy their applications to it.
Graduate Developer
Feb 2019 - Apr 2020
- Acted as a technical lead for a group of other graduate developers, helping them architect technical solutions as well as developing team workflows and processes.
